Alexander Cheswick, Executive Chef and Owner

A Chicago native, Alexander Cheswick started cooking professionally at the age of 16 at the Metropolitan Club, Sears Tower. He is a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, Chicago, and the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York. Alex has worked in some of Chicago’s finest restaurants, including Le Francais and Tru, as well as in Europe, highlighting Residenz of Heinz Winkler, a three Michelin star French Restaurant in Germany. Most recently the Executive Chef of a boutique four star equestrian hotel in the foothills of the Alps, Bavaria, Alex returned to his native Chicago in 2005 to open his own restaurant, May Street Market. He currently resides in West Town.
   

Hamid Benna, General Manager

Born in Marrakech, Morocco, Hamid brings 25 years in the hospitality business to May Street Market in his position as General Manager. He has worked in great restaurants with great chefs in a career that began in San Francisco, with Jermiah Tower at Stars, Wolfgang Puck at Postrio, Bruce Hill at Oritalia and John Caputo at Socca. In the 1990s, Hamid moved to New York City, working with Terence Brennan at Picholine, Scott Brian at Veritas and Marcus Samuellson at Aquavit, along with Keith McNally at Balthazar. Now based in Chicago, Hamid looks forward to extending his expertise in management and customer service in "the love of good food and good service - that's what it's all about."
